Despite production of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren ending in 2009 and the two brands going their separate ways, they have been brought together one final time in the form of the McLaren Edition SLR at the Essen Motor Show in Germany.
The McLaren Edition SLR is not strictly a new car. It is a performance package designed by McLaren, and includes an improved aero kit for increased downforce, enhanced steering and suspension setups, interior styling tweaks and new ceramic brakes.
Highlighting the broken relationship between the two supercar manufacturers, the Mercedes badges are finished in a smoky varnish while the McLaren badges stand out in bright red.The vehicle’s supercharged 5.5-litre V8 engine – with its 467kW and 780Nm of torque – is understood to be unchanged.
There is no word on improvements to its 333km/h top speed or 0-100km/h acceleration time of 3.8 seconds, however.
McLaren will produce just 25 of the Edition SLR packages, but is yet to reveal availability or pricing details.-caradvice.com.au
