Spyshots: 2011 Hyundai Supermini MPV

As the South Korean manufacturers become more and more appealing for both the European and American consumer, the invasion of Hyundai-Kia vehicles we witnessed in the past two years is likely to continue in the years to come. After witnessing the success of the i line.


Hyundai for instance is now getting ready to release a mini-MPV, with roots in the i30.

While the name of the car caught testing in these spyshots is not yet known (some hint to the i35 designation), it's clear Hyundai wants to capitalize of the success of the i30 and offer a new model. Said to replace the outgoing Matrix, the new model is likely the Kia Venga's brother.

According to sources with knowledge of the matter, the new MPV will use largely the same engines used by Kia on the Venga model. This means an offering of 1.4l and 1.6l petrol engines, with outputs of 90 and 125 hp, as well as two additional turbodiesel powerplants, developing 90 and 
128 hp.

The MPV is not the only new model Hyundai is working on. A "four-passenger Honda CRX," as the carmaker calls it, is in the works in the form of the Veloster. The Veloster (if this is to be its name) will be the size of the Accent, likely powered by a 1.6 liter four cylinder engine with direct injection, developing 140 hp and providing a fuel consumption rating of over 40 mpg (5.8 l/100km).

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra is also undergoing testing with a new, upgraded line of engines, with significant improvements in the fuel consumption and emissions areas. A hybrid version will most likely make it to production as well as Hyundai is one of the companies that are aiming to introduce green variants for most of its models.
