Geely reveals design for new London taxi

The most iconic vehicles on the streets of London could be about to change if Chinese brand Geely has its way.

The company has released some low-res renderings of its proposal for a new London black cab which it will display at this month's Beijing motor show.

The taxi is just a concept at the moment, as the black cabs on the streets of London are all capable of taking a wheelchair and seat five – the low-resolution pictures of Geely's car reveal just three seats and no room for a chair.

The concept has been drawn up as Geely is reportedly poised to take a controlling stake in the company that makes London's iconic vehicles. London Taxis International had been producing the cabs since 1948, but production has recently been shifted from Coventry to China.

Full details of the Geely Englon TXN will be revealed at the Beijing show.
