Trip For Two To Monaco For Winner Of PROTON Motorsports Online Challenge

It was not luck alone but keyboard tapping skill and determination that led 27 year old Mohd Akram Zaki to win himself an all-expense paid trip for two to watch the 100th Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo on 19 January to 23 January 2011.

Mohd Akram participated in an online challenge organized by PROTON Holdings Berhad, which was held from 10 December 2010 to 7 January 2011. The game required participants to correctly answer mini quizzes and play a virtual rally related games in 3 progressive stages starting their journey from Kuala Lumpur which eventually lead participants to Monte Carlo, the finishing line.

Mohd Akram, a trainee aircraft engineer, spent an average of 5-10 minutes daily participating in the online rally on the contest website for four weeks. He successfully completed all stages by being the first player to reach Monte Carlo, ahead of thousands of determined drivers.

“I still can’t believe I won myself a trip to watch the rally in Monaco! To be able to be there in person and witness such a historic event was really beyond my wildest dreams, and it was really such an unforgettable experience. All this has taught me so much about rallying, and after being able to see for myself the amount of work and effort it takes, I have newfound respect for the PROTON Motorsports Rally team,” said Mohd Akram, who had been following the team online and participated in all the contests organized so far.

Besides the grand prize winner, individual stage winners also won exclusive PROTON R3 merchandise.

This season, the PROTON Motorsports Rally Team will participate in 10 rounds of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and the full FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) with the Proton Satria Neo S2000.

In 2010, the team, featuring ace rally drivers Alister McRae and Chris Atkinson, successfully scored a 1-2 finish at the APRC’s season ending Rally of China, and secured a second place finish at the Rally of Whangarei in New Zealand.

“We wanted to reward our loyal motorsports fans with this once in a lifetime opportunity to witness one of the oldest rallies in the world, where our very own Satria Neo S2000 competed against other renowned car manufacturers from across the globe. This is our way of saying thank you to all our loyal supporters who have stood by and provided encouragement to the PROTON Motorsports Rally Team. What better way to express our gratitude than to enable them to experience the thrill and adrenalin of rallying together with us,” said PROTON Holdings Berhad Group Managing Director Dato’ Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir.-proton.com
