Lamborghini is not about to let its V-10-powered Gallardo abdicate the spotlight to the 2012 Aventador just yet. In fact, the automaker just revealed it revealed the 2011 Gallardo LP560-4 Bicolore special edition at the Qatar Motor Show.
Sticking with a well-proven formula, nothing has changed for the Bicolore’s mechanical hardware. The coupe is powered by a 560-horsepower 5.2-liter V-10, coupled with all-wheel drive. It is available only with Lamborghini’s e-gear paddle-shifted transmission and will hit 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.
Perhaps most interesting to U.S. enthusiasts, however, is the fact that we are not getting the LP560-4 Bicolore. Instead, our market will receive the Gallardo LP550-2 Bicolore. That means the U.S. version is the second rear-wheel drive Gallardo model, following in the footsteps of the 2010 Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni edition. The U.S.-spec Bicolore’s engine delivers 10 fewer horses and makes it to 60 mph in two-tenths of a second slower than its European sibling, but we doubt anyone will be complaining.
What differentiates the Bicolore from the rest of the Gallardo line, however, is that everything above the beltline is painted black, despite the actual exterior color. In true Lamborghini form, the available paint colors are far from sedate: customers can choose from giallomidas (yellow), arancio borealis (orange), grigiotelesto (grey), biancomonocerus (white), and blucaelum (blue). The cosmetic package is capped off with a set of aluminum-alloy titanium grey 15-spoke wheels.
Step inside, and you’ll find an interior swathed in black leather, trimmed with piano black accents and stitching to match the exterior color (what Lamborghini would be complete without orange stitching?). Lamborghini will also happily outfit the Bicolore with any of the options available to the regular Gallardo LP560-4/LP550-2, which range from heated power seats the gamut it carbon-ceramic brakes or heated power seats.
No pricing has been announced for the latest Lambo, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it carries a price tag similar to that of the Balboni, which sold for roughly $220,000.-motortrend.com
