2012 Hyundai Accent Previewed With Verna Hatchback at China’s Guangzhou Auto Show


Several spy photos have already given us a good idea of what the next-generation Hyundai Accent will look like, but we now have the first look at the hatchback model. Unveiled at the Guangzhou auto show in China, the Accent will be sold as the Verna overseas.
In China two engines will be offered including a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder with 105-hp and 100 ft-lbs of torque, as well as a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder with 121-hp and 114 ft-lbs of torque. The latter engine is expected to be offered in the North American Accent and achieve over 40-mpg highway.
The official reveal for the next Accent is pegged to take place at the New York Auto Show in April.

Hyundai debuts five-door Verna at Guangzhou Show in China
Following the unveiling of the Verna four-door sedan at the Beijing Automotive Exhibition in April, Hyundai Motor Company has introduced an all-new Verna five-door hatch at the 8th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition.
The all-new Verna will be built by Beijing Hyundai Motor Company, a 50-50 joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company. The new Verna will go on sale in China as early as January 2011.
The new Verna will be offered with a choice of two state-of-the-art Gamma petrol engines. The 1.4-litre model will deliver a peak power output of 78.7kW and a maximum torque of 135.4Nm, while the 1.6-litre model will produce 90.4kW of peak power and maximum torque of 155Nm.
In the Chinese market, the 1.4-litre entry level model Verna will achieve a consumption figure of 6.5L/100 km, and when fitted with the fuel-economy package the result is 6.2L/100 km, achieving a best-in-class performance.
In addition to the new Verna five-door hatch, Beijing Hyundai Motor Company will also build the i45 mid-sized sedan, to be known as Sonata in China and this will be introduced into the market as early as January 2011.
