The battery is attached to the vehicle in various locations depending on the manufacturer. Some batteries are located toward the back of the vehicle relieving the load off the center of the vehicle, near the occupant’s compartment or near the wheel base, etc.The battery is plugged in to a standard outlet that you might find in a home or business. The battery can also be plugged into several different battery stations, like Smartconnect from the Southern California Edison (SCE), a company which generates and distributes electric power. Betterplace stations are another company that is in the process of producing a market-based transportation infrastructure that sustains electric vehicles. SCE also invests deeply into installing smart meters and other electric supply Infrastructures.
The batteries are plugged in to various voltage outlets; the charge time will depend on the outlet voltage. Most of the vehicles can be recharged with as little as 120 volts. There are a few vehicles which can be charged on 400 outlets in less than 30 minutes. The batteries will lasts anywhere between 60 and 200 kWh. So in order to travel longer distances than from home to work, and that’s only if the distance between the two on average is not more than 50 miles, you’re going to need to make a pit stop.
