Lexus CT 200h Hybrid Detailed

Lexus knows that the compact segment is the next big battlefield for premium car companies, as BMW, Audi or Mercedes-Benz have already launched or are planning new types of products designed for customers living in urban environments that want something more compact.

That's why the premium company decided to take the platform of the extremely popular Toyota Prius hybrid, and create something more upmarket. As such, the new Lexus CT 200h has been born, and premiered at the beginning of the year at the Geneva Motor Show and at the New York Auto Show.

Now, as it is getting close to its worldwide release, and to its debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, the CT 200h has been detailed.

First off, and most importantly to plenty of customers, is the hybrid technology that it will employ. Basically, it is a derivation of the same Hybrid Synergy Drive tech we can see on the Prius. The CT 200h uses a 1.8-liter VVT-i gasoline four-cylinder engine, capable of 98 HP, coupled with a 80 HP electric motor. The total output of the car is limited at 134 HP. This, according to Lexus, combines both efficient driving and the same sporty feel associated with other Lexus models.

The internal combustion engine and the motor will work together to take the car from 0 to 60 mph in 9.8 seconds and up to 112 mph. According to the EPA, the fuel economy is estimated at 42 mpg. The model even has a pure electric mode, which can power it for up to one mile in distance and up to 28 mph in speed. 

The engine and motor are regulated by an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, which ensures that the car doesn't waste anything while it is being driven. The Lexus CT 200h lets drivers choose between two different 'moods': Relaxed and Dynamic, and between four different modes: EV, Eco, Normal and Sport.

The mechanics of the CT 200h have also been thoroughly fine tuned, in order to be as lightweight as possible yet retain a smooth handling, worthy of the Lexus badge.
