ALFA ROMEO AT THE 2010 PARIS MOTOR SHOW

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the safest compact car in the world according to Euro NCAP and set to arrive in Australia and New Zealand at the end of the year, will debut at the 2010 Paris International Motor Show (2 – 17 October 2010) with a new 140 HP Diesel 2.0 JTDM-2 and the Alfa TCT twin clutch automatic transmission. The already extensive range of engines available for the Giulietta is complemented by the launch of a new 140 HP turbodiesel that records low emissions (only 119 g/km), low fuel consumption (4.5 litres/100 km over a combined cycle) and an outstanding torque delivery (in Dynamic 350 Nm at just 1750 rpm). A versatile engine well-suited to the needs of fleets and private users. The second new product is a dry twin clutch automatic transmission which guarantees driving comfort and a sporty feeling well above those offered by conventional automatic transmissions, but also improved efficiency and lower consumption levels. The Alfa TCT will be combined with a petrol version (170 HP 1.4 MultiAir present on the stand) and later also with a diesel version (170 HP 2.0 JTDM). In addition the brand-new Alfa TCT, first applied to the Alfa Mito, is combined with the Start&Stop system in order to minimise consumption levels and CO2 emissions (121 g/km for the 170 HP 1.4 MultiAir).
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta was designed with two ‘souls’, one more sporty and capable of expressing great agility over the most demanding routes, and one more functional, with qualities of roominess and comfort on everyday roads.
The car has achieved the prestigious 5 Euro NCAP stars and an overall score of 87/100 with the new 2010 rating: an extraordinary result that makes it the safest compact ever.
Two other versions of the Giulietta will be lined up on the stand at the Paris Show: a 105 HP Distinctive 1.6 JTDM and a Quadrifoglio Verde with a 235 HP 1750 TBi engine. The first engine is dedicated to all those in search of a car with character and a distinctive style, affording the typical agility and handling of an Alfa Romeo yet able to combine these qualities with limited running costs.
The 105 HP 1.6 JTDM is a flexible and eco-friendly diesel engine that will surprise customers due to its prompt response (in Dynamic mode, the max. torque is a generous 320 Nm at just 1750 rpm) combined with extremely low fuel consumption (in the extra-urban cycle, it is just 3.7 l/100 km). This is possible thanks to the combination of MultiJet 2 technology and the Start&Stop system.
Separate mention must be made of the high performance 235 HP 1750 TBi combined with the exclusive Quadrifoglio Verde trim level, a legendary symbol which has competed on tracks all over the world.
Only available on this engine type, this special version is distinguished by its sporty lowered ride height (15 mm lower at the front and 10 mm at the rear), 17" wheels (18"as an option), an enhanced braking system with calipers painted Alfa red, as well as unique interiors which include sporty leather and microfibre upholstery.
All designed to guarantee the best in driving pleasure and segment-leading active and passive safety. Fuel consumption is also low considering the power level of this engine.
Visitors to the stand can also admire a Giulietta equipped with Blue&Me-TomTom, the only fully integrated portable info-entertainment system that, in addition to map navigation, can be used by means of an up-to-date colour touch screen plus steering wheel and voice commands to manage the telephone, navigation and all information needed while driving, enhancing and exploiting Blue&Me features and ensuring maximum driving safety.
MiTo sportiness becomes even more eco-friendly
. The spotlights will also be focused on the Alfa Romeo MiTo, which will be represented at the Paris Show by two cars with a Distinctive trim level.
The first vehicle is equipped with a 135 HP 1.4 MultiAir turbo petrol combined with an Alfa TCT automatic transmission with dry twin clutch and the Start&Stop system that temporarily turns off the engine during stops.
The second Alfa Romeo MiTo on the stand is equipped with a 95 HP 1.3 MultiJet engine in the ECO version. This may be distinguished from the same engine in the range by its optimised fuel consumption, achieved by special engine tuning and gear ratios.
Both cars on show offer sophisticated leather upholstery, the Premium Pack (steering wheel controls, front armrest with compartment, dual zone automatic climate control, parking sensors and Cruise Control) and the Sport Pack (spoiler, sport rear bumper, fog lights, sports instrument panel and 18" wheels for the 135 HP 1.4 MultiAir and 17" wheels for the 95 HP 1.3 MultiJet ECO).
The info-telematic equipment on board the two MiTo cars is different: the 1.4 MultiAir version is equipped with the Blue&Me system and RadioNav satellite navigation system that constitutes the new generation of entertainment and satellite navigation developed by Magneti Marelli for Alfa Romeo.
The system incorporates a satellite navigation system, radio with dual tuner, one dedicated to traffic information reception (TMC), the CD MP3 player and European maps loaded onto a SD card that speeds up data access and route calculation times.
Alfa Romeo 159 introduces the MY 2011 and the new 136 HP Diesel 2.0 JTDM-2 engine
The stand also features an Alfa Romeo 159 Model Year 2011. The model (saloon and Sportwagon) has recently undergone a facelift in its interior styling and has been enhanced by option packages that ensure customers a wide range of personalisation alternatives and a wealth of content.
Visitors can admire a Sportwagon in the exclusive "Rosso Competizione" livery and equipped with the new 136 HP 2.0 JTDM engine (Euro 5).
The car on show is equipped with a TI Pack that adds a sporty flavour with its long list of features. In detail, the TI Pack customises the Alfa Romeo 159 exteriors with 18" "turbine" design alloy wheels (a 19" spoked design is available as an option, as on the car exhibited), low sports ride, side skirts and oversized red brake calipers. A very lively car, therefore, with exceptional roadholding.
Giulietta launches a new 140 HP Diesel 2.0 JTDM-2 and the Alfa TCT twin clutch automatic transmission
The safest compact car ever tested by Euro NCAP is exhibited in Paris with two major new products: the powerful 140 HP 2.0 JTDM engine and the new Alfa TCT gearbox, an automatic transmission with a state-of-the-art dry twin clutch.
The safest compact car in the world according to Euro NCAP
The new Giulietta is a five-door hatchback, with an evident Alfa Romeo appearance, capable of expressing great agility over the most demanding routes and also providing roominess and comfort on everyday roads.
This is due to the new Compact architecture which, thanks to the sophisticated technical solutions employed for the suspension, the dual pinion active steering, the fine materials used and the manufacturing technologies implemented, allows the Giulietta to achieve excellent levels both in terms of on-board comfort and dynamic and safety features (active and passive).
It’s no coincidence that last April the Alfa Romeo Giulietta achieved the prestigious 5 Euro NCAP star rating with an overall score of 87/100: an extraordinary result that makes it the safest compact ever.-prestigeway.
