This is one news item which might catch you saying, “Darn it! I got late.” Ferrari has revealed a few tidbits about the SA APERTA which will be presented at the upcoming 2010 Paris Motor Show, and all the 80 models planned for manufacture have already been pre-sold.
The SA APERTA is the much-awaited drop-top version of the Ferrari 599, designed as a tribute to long-time Ferrari partner, Pininfarina’s 80th anniversary, which explains the decision for the limit of 80 units. The SA nomenclature stands for Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina, whose company is an integral part of some very feisty Ferrari models, including the 365 GTB/4 “Daytona”, Testarossas and F40. “APERTA” means “open” in Italian, so that part is pretty much accounted for.
The SA APERTA, also known as the 599 roadster, replaces its ancestor’s top to flaunt a new removable soft one plus a newly modeled chassis to retain the coupe-stiffness; adds a lower-angled windscreen, and integrated roll-bars that duplicate the seat outlines and are flanked by aerodynamic fins. A lowered suspension completes the roadster look.
In terms of performance, the SA APERTA will feature the 6.0 L V12 delivering 661 bhp, which is the same engine that makes 599 GTO Ferrari’s fastest roadster ever. Though no more details have been diverged, we can at least safely assume that the SA APERTA will inherit the GTO’s 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 208 mph.
No word is out yet about the pricing either, with Ferrari waiting for the Paris Motor Show to announce that detail. As for the limit of 80, you still might have a chance to ride in one if you got some early-birds among your friends.-nitrobahn.
