Look familiar? Volkswagen presented the `Microbus’ study a few years ago at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
We reckon its about time they finally put the Microbus into production. It was designed in Volkswagen’s California design studio especially for the US market.
It has strong links to the original Volkswagen Microbus launched in 1950.
Like the Beetle it achieved cult status, especially in the US.
The design study redefines the personality and freedom that the original vehicle embodied.
With three rows of seats, the middle centre seats could be swivelled to face backwards.
It featured an 18cm screen in the centre console, four monitors in the backrests of the first and second rows as well as two extendable displays between the second and third rows allowing the car to be turned into a virtual cinema.
In June 2002 Volkswagen announced that the Microbus was scheduled for production from but the launch was deferred and formally cancelled in early 2005.-whereilive.
