2012 Mazda CX-5 Coming to 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show

The Frankfurt Auto Show is still over a month away, but that isn’t stopping Mazda for releasing a beauty shot of its all-new-for 2012 CX-5 crossover. Due to replace the aging, Ford-Escape-based Mazda Tribute, the 2012 Mazda CX-5 will be the first Mazda to take advantage of the new “Kodo – soul of motion” design theme. It will also be the first Mazda to benefit from Mazda’s SKYACTIV fuel-saving engine and transmission technology.

Set to roll out in select (but yet unnamed) markets in early 2012, the CX-5 can’t launch soon enough. Mazda has needed a competitive vehicle in this segment for quite some time, and the CX-5 promises to bring a unique blend of style, ride quality, performance and fuel economy to the compact crossover segment. Worldwide, Mazda will offer the 2012 CX-5 with both gasoline and diesel SKYACTIV engines, and buyers in countries getting the diesel variant also get to choose between “Standard Power” and “High Power” SKYACTIV diesels.

It’s not likely that U.S. customers will get a diesel option, but we’d expect Mazda to launch both manual and automatic transmission versions for the U.S. market. Look for more details on launch dates and power output after the start of the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.-thecarconnection.com
