Peugeot EX1 Sets Nurburgring Electric-Car Lap Record

Peugeot EX1
French automaker Peugeot is boasting a new lap record at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany — for electricvehicles, at least. The official lap time of 9:01 minutes and average speed of 86 mph recorded by Peugeot’s EX1 trumped the previous record of 9:51, set by a modified Mini E in 2010.
The EX1 is Peugeot’s slinky electric roadster that bowed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. Although it has the poise of a three-wheeled car, the stern is actually home to two wheels, each powered by an electric motor. Their combined output is 345 hp, and Peugeot says the EX1 can pull 1.0 g of cornering grip.
Race driver Stéphane Caillet piloted the record-breaking lap, which Peugeot says took place in “unfavorable” weather conditions — judging from the photos, it looks damp and foggy. The nine-minute lap isn’t too far from the times set by contemporary sports cars, proving that perhaps electric cars can be fun after all.-rumors.automobilemag.com
