The Audi A3 range of hatchbacks have proven to be a sales success for the German automaker, even here in the U.S. where the car offers stellar fuel economy thanks to an advanced clean diesel engine option. Now, Audi is finally bowing to demand by confirming plans for a new A3 Sedan, and the first teasers of a new concept previewing the car have been released.
The concept, which previews a sedan version of the next-generation A3, will be on display next week at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
A sporty yet elegant design of the Audi A3 Sedan Concept integrates the now familiar single-frame grille, with its tapered upper corners and headlights, with the latest generation of Audi's LED technology. The low, flowing roof dome and a coupe-like low C-pillar are among the distinctive features of the side view.
Measurements confirm it will remain in the small car segment: 14.57 feet in length, 6.04 feet in width and 4.56 feet in height.
Under the hood sits a turbocharged five-cylinder engine with 408 horsepower on tap. This is linked with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system, suggesting that a high-performance RS3 version is planned.
Expect more details following the Audi A3 Sedan Concept’s debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, which kicks off on March 1. In the meantime, follow our complete coverage of the event by clicking here.
The next-generation Audi A3, meanwhile, is on track for its sales debut in the second half of next year, most likely making the new A3 Sedan a 2013 model year runner. For more details, check out our previous post by clicking here. -motorauthority.com
