After nearly 32 years in development, Covini Engineering and PMI SpA finally revealed a production version of the six-wheeled sportscar Covini C6W at the Racing Professional Motor Show in Bologna.
The rear-wheel-drive Covini C6W is equipped with a 4.2-liter Audi-sourced V8 engine that can deliver power of 433 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed manual gearbox. Top speed for the vehicle is expected to be 185 mph.
In fact, the sports car takes its engineering inspiration from 1976 Formula 1 racing car Tyrell P34 that had two pairs of 10 inch wheels at the front of the vehicle. The front wheels of the Tyrell P34 were intended to increase air penetration and provide a smaller frontal area to reduce drag.
According to company founder Ferruccio Covini, the 6-wheeled sportscar offers a reduced risk of front tyre deflation, less risk of aquaplaning, better grip and braking as well as improved absorption of front impact.
Though the C6W measures 4180 mm x 1990 mm x 1080 mm it weighs less than 1,200 kgs. The sportscar also comes with a steel tubular chassis with carbon fiber reinforcements and structural parts as well as an independent front and rear wishbone suspension.
The C6W has four 15” wheels with 205/45-15 tires on the front and 20” wheels with 345/25-20 tires on the rear. All six wheels come with vented Brembo brake discs with a Bosch servo and electronic brake distribution.
As for the interior, a two-color leather finish with aluminum insertions was used.
Availability and pricing details are yet to be released.
On another note, Ferruccio reportedly stated that Covini Engineering will prepare a new diesel-powered supercar along with a new, as yet unnamed project next year.-nitrobahn.com
