Proton have been the topic among my friends these few days during Yumcha session with its official launch of the new Proton Inspira and there’re quite a number of active discussions online as well.
Everyone knows about the news but do you know that Proton had quite an impressive win just last weekend at the Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) in China?
The PROTON R3 Rally Team dominated the final round of the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship in China last weekend – with Alister McRae clinching maximum points on the China Longyou Rally and his team-mate Chris Atkinson finishing second of the series runners.
Proton’s have been involved in Motorsports quite some time already and in recent years, the Proton Satria Neo S2000 gets quite a lot of attention internationally with its popularity in both the APRC and IRC
For your information, Proton had competed in five of the six APRC rounds in 2010 this year that began with the Rally of Malaysia, Rally of Japan, Rally of New Zealand and Rally of Australia.
A one-two finish at the recent China Rally last weekend by Alister McRae and Chris Atkinson shows the Malaysia Boleh spirit in Proton’s competitiveness as a manufacturer on the international rally arena.
The good results didn’t came in easily, Proton’s went through a series of misfortunes throughout the season which directly influenced their performances in the earlier rounds of APRC this year.
With the latest success in the APRC, Proton is on the right track for the next upcoming season thanks to their challenger spirit with much determination. Proton have placed itself firmly in between the traditionally-dominant manufacturers Mitsubishi and Subaru in the global rallying arena and well of course, as a Malaysian myself, it would be something i am proud of!
