As the Australian shores braces itself for a galore of new automobiles from celebrated manufacturers, here is Japanese automaker Mitsubishi trying to seize its share of audiences with the i-MiEV Sport concept car. Unveiled at this year’s Australian International Motor Show, the i-MiEV Sport according to its maker, “embodies Mitsubishi Motor’s (MMC’s) environmental technology while maximizing the sporty possibilities of the zero-emissions electric vehicle.”
The lithium-ion battery-powered, all-wheel drive coupe concept is based on the recently released i-MiEV electric vehicle. The i-MiEV Sport makes use of in-wheel motors at the front and a third motor driving the rear wheels, all controlled by the S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) vehicle dynamics system. Weighing around 970 kilograms, thanks to the light rigid aluminum space frame, the concept generates a powerful 680Nm of torque.
Apart from the S-AWC, the vehicle also features an E-4WD system, a new E-AYC (Electric Active Yaw Control) system, ABS and ASC.
Shining in the light green pearlescent paint, the i-MiEV Sport can cruise to 200 km (125 miles) on a single charge, increased by photovoltaic solar cells mounted in the roof and a power generating fan mounted in the front grille. For more power, at play are Mitsubishi’s bright power-saving LED lighting system, regenerative braking functions, heat-absorbing window glass and company’s unique plant-based Green Plastic resin technology.
“The focus for our display here at the show is on innovation and technology, and the i-MiEV Sport shows that, at Mitsubishi, electric vehicles have taken the next step forward,” said Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited’s (MMAL’s) President and CEO, Masahiko Takahashi. “They have the performance possibilities to make them a whole lot of fun.”-nitrobahn.com
