2010 Paris Auto Show Prototypes: Peugeot SR1 Concept

This is one tangy concept car. Unveiled for the first time at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, the SR1 is by far one of the best proportioned concept cars we have ever seen. Although the production-feasibility of this car is low, given especially the arrival of the RCZ, the SR1 is nonetheless a beautiful exercise in design.

Other than signaling a future design direction for the PSA group (Peugeot-Citroen), the SR1 serves as a test bed, more or less, for new powertrain ideas. The convertible concept is motivated by a turbocharged 218 hp 1.6L 4-cylinder engine combined with a rear-mounted 95 hp electric motor. As both operate to their maximum potential, they develop 313 hp. As the engines drive different sets of wheels, the SR1 is an AWD vehicle. 

As is the case with many hybrids, the SR1 can be a full EV when being powered solely by the electric motor. When the internal combustion engine is in action, the car will consume as little as 4.9L/100 km and emit only 119 g/km of CO2. 

Styling-wise, the SR1 touches on classic grand-touring design features such as flowing fenders, a large bonnet and a low center of gravity. 

The roof, a hard top, fits the SR1's body like a glove and looks as good placed or retracted. It uses preformed profile technology borrowed from the world of sailing. 

The wrap-around cockpit enshrines 2+1 seats making the convertible all but a roadster. With a near-futuristic-hint-of-old presentation, the SR1's cabin is a blend of leathers, woods and other high-tech materials such as nickel and satin-finished chrome. -auto123.com
