Toyota looking to introduce a hybrid model in every car segment of the automarket. The Japanese will take the first step in this direction, with the launch of MPV version of the current Prius.
Toyota will seek to take maximum advantage of the current success of the Prius with a number of models derived from the hybrid platform. Most likely will make its first model in the market place will be a seven seat version of the current ecological model, expected to be called Alpha Prius. The MPV is scheduled to begin on the car scene in spring next year, specifically at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011.
As expected, the Japanese model will take the existing platform and with it the Prius hybrid train, composed by 1.8-liter gasoline engine and electric. Absolute novelty will be a lithium-ion batteries, which will replace the current ones, which means that we assist and improve electrical performance.
However, the higher total weight put its imprint on average consumption estimated at about 71.2 mi/gal. To accommodate the third row of seats, Toyota Prius Alpha will increase with 11.8 inches in length and will offer for the customers a greater flexibility at the interior.
